Troy Billings (Jacob Wysocki) is zeventien, lijdt aan overgewicht en is suïcidaal. Net op het moment dat hij voor een bus wil springen, wordt hij gered door Marcus (Matt O'Leary), een charmante muzikant die vroegtijdig van school is gegaan. De twee beginnen een ongemakkelijke vriendschap wanneer Marcus hem uitdaagt om de drummer van een punkrockband te worden.
