Rex is een oude man die verbitterd is omdat hij nooit beroemd is geworden en een leven zonder enige betekenis heeft geleefd. Na een beroerte belandt hij in een verpleeghuis dat bemand wordt door Latijns-Amerikaanse immigranten. Afgeschrikt door de situatie, richt hij zijn energie op het weggaan, hetgeen hem op gespannen voet plaatst met de Latino mederwerkers. Echter, hun relatie krijgt een nieuwe betekenis als wordt ontdekt dat hij eens de hand schudde van Vicente Fernandez, een Mexicaanse zanger, producer en acteur verafgood in heel Latijns-cultuur. De medewerkers beginnen hierna Rex te behandelen als de beroemdheid die hij altijd gedroomd had te zijn.
